Capitation of Mr. Elie Furtado. 1782.
15,5 x 21,5 cm
Framed under glass.
Important document which testifies to the capitation and taxation of Mr. Elie Furtado for the twentieth of a house in rue Maubec. Elie Furtado came from Lisbon to London, then settled in Bayonne. He was the father of Abraham Furtado, who was a deputy of the Portuguese Jewish nation in the city, then president of the Assembly of Notables and later secretary of the Great Sanhedrin. His status as a Jew is mentioned in the document.
