An Interesting Carved Organic Material Wood and Mother of Pearl Okimono of a Dancer, Japan, Early 20th Century
Carved with various techniques in the shape of a traditional dancer holding a finely engraved and blackened fan in one hand and a bell in the other. His robe of polished wood and his head adorned with a traditional hat ornamented with red lacquer accented with mother of pearl. On the back mechanism which moves the dancers tongue in and out. Some of the inlay in the hat missing.
