A RUSSIAN LITHOGRAPH COSTUME DESIGN BY LEV BAKST
Lev (Leon) Samoilovich Bakst (Russian, 1866–1924). Color lithograph on paper. Costume Design for the Queen from Sleeping Beauty, 1921. Signed in print, lower right. Inscribed in print, upper right. Framed. Bakst, an artist, set designer, illustrator and designer, worked mainly in St. Petersburg and Paris. Master of easel painting and theatrical graphics, member of the World of Art association and theatrical and artistic projects of S. Diaghilev, one of the trendsetters of European fashion for exoticism and orientalism at the beginning of the 20th century.
