ANCIENT CHINESE HONGSHAN CARVED BLACK JADE TURTLE
An Ancient Chinese hand-carved black jade figurine of a turtle. Late Neolithic period, Hongshan, 3500-2500 BC. Weight: 59 grams. In ancient China, the tortoise was a sacred animal considered it one of the Four Spiritually Endowed Creatures, along with the unicorn, phoenix, and dragon.
