ATTR TO ZOFIA STRYJENSKA POLISH ART DECO PAINTING
Attributed to Zofia Stryjenska, Polish, 1891 to 1976, tempera painting on canvas laid on masonite board depicting a portrait of a young highlander woman seen straight ahead, depicted dancing in traditional costume. She is dressed in a white, tight skirt bordered with a white and red ribbon. On the head there is an orange scarf with a typical floral motif falling on the shoulders, in the background there is a green fleece and in the distance there are mountain chaises against the blue sky and to the right there is a fragment of a highlanders house. Signed lower right. Framed. A paper label with expertise in Polish, signed and stamped by Feliks Kopera, director of the National Office, on the backside. Zofia Stryjenska was a Polish painter, graphic designer, illustrator, stage designer, and a representative of Art Deco. Along with Olga Boznanska and Tamara de Lempicka, she was one of the best known Polish women artists of the interwar period. In the 1930s she was nominated for the prestigious Golden Laurel of the Polish Academy of Literature, but declined the offer. Mid Century Portrait Paintings And Polish Art Collectibles.
