An Antique Chinese Celadon Small Ginger Jar
An Antique Chinese Celadon-Glaze Small Ginger Jar/Vase with Provenance. Covered overall in a pale crackled celadon-green glaze. The exterior of the bowl is decorated by a lappet border towards the foot and an upper register incised as continuous wave-like scrolls. Qing Dynasty, 18/19th Century. Size h 3 X d 3 1/2. Provenance: Collection of Edward Hyers Clayton (1886-1946). American writer and missioner. E.H. Clayton and his wife were missionaries of the American Baptist Foreign Mission Society in charge of Wayland Academy, a missionary school in Hangzhou, China from 1912 to 1942. E.H. Clayton wrote a book Heaven Below based on his living experience in China.
