A 19th Century Chinese Famille Rose Porcelain with Provenance.Body decorated with medallions with dragon scene, butterflies amongst native flora and trees and gifts. The vase features elephant head handles. Geometric & floral decor at the base. With red underglaze butterfly-shaped mark. Ca. Qing Dynasty, 19th Century. Size h 8 1/2. Provenance: Collection of Edward Hyers Clayton (1886-1946). American writer and missioner. E.H. Clayton and his wife were missionaries of the American Baptist Foreign Mission Society in charge of Wayland Academy, a missionary school in Hangzhou, China from 1912 to 1942. E.H. Clayton wrote a book Heaven Below based on his living experience in China.
