HELLENISTIC GOLD PIN
Ca. 400-300 BC.A beautiful gold hairpin of a round-section shank that is tapered at one end and finished with a pear-shaped terminal, which is decorated with fine scrollwork and blue stone inserts. In the Hellenistic world, hairpins were a symbol of status and served both functional and decorative purposes. Women used hairpins to secure their hair in intricate hairstyles that were fashionable at the time. They were often made of precious materials such as gold, silver, and ivory, and adorned with gemstones and intricate designs.
