EGYPTIAN ALABASTER FROG AMULET
New Kingdom, Ca. 1550-1070 BC.An alabaster amulet featuring a lifelike representation of a frog atop a flat integral base. The amphibian exhibits detailed anatomical features including protruding eyes, streamlined body, tapered limbs, and pronounced hindquarters. A frog is emblematic of the goddess Hekat, a deity revered for her dominion over fertility, childbirth, and magic, and is often represented with a frog's visage, solidifying the amphibian's association with her cult. For similar, see W.M.F. Petrie, Amulets, Plate II. Size: 30mm x 42mm; Weight: 34g Provenance: From the collection of a London gentleman; formerly acquired in early 2000s; previously in 1970s UK collection.
