EGYPTIAN FAIENCE USHABTI
Late to Ptolemaic Period, Ca. 664-30 BC.A beautiful mummiform ushabti decorated with a light blue glaze and applied black pigment on the lappet and Osiran false beard. This ushabti is flat-backed and stands atop a square base with crossed arms. Much of the detail of the figure has been worn away, but one can see the remains of what could be an inscription running in a central column down the body. Ushabti's were mummiform dolls buried with the deceased, often in great numbers. Their main function was to ensure the individual's comfort and freedom from daily labour in the next life.
