GANDHARAN SCHIST HEAD OF BUDDHA
Ca. AD 200 - 400 A Gandharan finely carved grey schist head of Buddha. The wide face has a serene expression, and elongated ears, and is finished with hair tied in a Ushnisha knot. For similar see: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Accession Number: 1987.142.73. Size: 350mm x 220mm; Weight: 17.6kg Provenance: From the collection of a London gentleman; formerly acquired in the early 2000s in France; previously in 1970s European collection.
