Alabama 10gal Home Brew Jar W/Ant Defender
Significant Alabama Ten Gallon Home Brew Jar with Ant Defender Circa 1850-60. This is one of the most sought forms in southern pottery and this being a large size of ten gallons. The jar has a warm honey alkaline glaze that has a great form. These jars were used on plantations for large food storage and fermentation. Later in years to come they were sought after by moonshiners and when caught by the law all items were destroyed. This is one main reason why these examples don't turn up. Condition is outstanding with light wear flakes on the inside rim.. No major chips, no cracks or repairs. Standing 16 1/2" Tall x 13 1/2" Wide rim to rim.
