1861 Confederate States 4 Dollar Loan Interest Note Grades Choice AU/BU Slider. In order to fund their war effort, the newly formed Confederacy issued bonds to their citizens in 1861. These bonds included a series of coupons intended to be turned in individually for the periodic interest return on the bond, which are hand-numbered and hand-signed. These are a rare paper artifact of the Civil War.
