Kirchner - Essay on Jewish Customs and Ceremonies - Frankfurt, 1720
Jüdisches Ceremoniel, das ist, allerhand Jüdische Gebräuche, welche die Juden in und ausser dem Tempel… von Paul Christian Kirchner. Frankfurt, 1720. (No etchings.)
Detailed description of Jewish customs and ceremonies in 18th-century Germany, by Paul Christian Kirchner. The author, born to a Jewish family, converted to Christianity a few years before composing the essay. In the foreword he announces his intentions of convincing other Jews to follow his example and convert. In 1724 the work was revised by Sebastian Jacob Jugendres, who corrected and refined Kirchner's scornful tone. The corrected edition included etchings depicting Jewish customs.
