Illustrated Ketubah - Cochin, 1923
A Ketubah recording the marriage of the groom Eliyahu son of Shmuel with the bride Rachel daughter of Mordechai. Cochin, 1923.
Parchment, ink and gouache.
The Ketubah is designed in a symmetric manner according to a traditional design of Cochin and is colorfully illustrated. On the upper part, in an oval frame, appear the blessing and on the lower part – the Ketubah text and signatures. On both sides of the Ketubah text are columns in a classic Western style topped with vases with flowers. Two birds appear on top of the columns. Wide green margins with a red line on both sides, frame the parchment. Signatures are in Hebrew and in Latin characters.
48X31.5 cm. Fair condition. Insect holes, central folding mark, tear on margins and creases. Framed with no glass.
