1946 Iowa Old Commem Half Dollar 50c Grades GEM+ Unc. The Iowa Commemorative marks the Final Run of the Old US Commemorative Program. The Iowa and the Booker T. Washington were approved on the same day by President Truman and mark an End to the Program. When looking at an Iowa Commemorative, check for signs of wear on the Eagle’s Neck and Head, and on the Building’s Central Pillars. After a period of dormancy for commemorative coins, the Iowa Centennial Half Dollar was produced and issued in 1946 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Iowa’s statehood.
