A Letter by Albert Einstein to the Rebbe of Sadigura about Saving the Rebbe's Relatives from a Death Sentence by the Russian Government
A letter by Albert Einstein to the REbbe of Sadigura, Rabbi Mordechai Shalom Yosef Friedman of Vienna, who was one of the leaders of Agudat Yisrael.
Berlin, 13.11.1930
A typewritten German letter, hand-signed by Einstein.
Historical background:
Einstein was asked by the Rebbe of Sadigura to help him rescue two women (who were the Rebbe's relatives) who were sentenced to death by the Soviet government.
In the response before us, Einstein states that he is willing to help, yet is skeptic regarding the results of his intervention, since lately, his relationship with the Russian government has deteriorated after his signing a protest against the execution of 48 innocent people. In addition, he had openly attacked the tyranny of the government in an article that was published in the USA.
Before us is a letter that indicates Einstein's desire to help his Jewish brothers.
22x28cm.
Condition: Good. Has been professionally restored. Slight wrinkles.
