RARE PR SEATED GUANYIN GILT CHING
A rare pair of seated Guanyin, Quing Dynasty Samantabhadra and Manjusri Bodhisattva. Heavy gilt copper from the estate of Carol and Howard Phillips featured in a previous Ringling Museum of Art Exhibition. EACH measuring (23cm W x 27cm H) 9" W x 8.5" H combined weight is 6.05 kg (13.4 LB)
These two Guanyin statues not only have some cultural relic characteristics of the Qing Dynasty but also some cultural relic characteristics of the Ming Dynasty.
Samantabhadra
Material: Copper as a whole, part of the surface gilded
Bodhisattva Manjushri, with his left hand holding a lotus and his
right hand forming the gesture of bestowing vows, sits on a
six-tusked white elephant.Bodhisattva Samantabhadra
symbolizes the practice of vows, guiding those who make
wishes to fulfill their desires. The white elephant represents
auspiciousness and pure, unblemished qualities.
Samantabhadra is dedicated to assisting sentient beings on
their path to enlightenment, conveying the message of courage
in helping others with a selfless spirit. As the attendants of
Gautama Buddha, alongside Manjushri Bodhisattva,
Samantabhadra and Manjushri work together to bring
compassion to all beings.
Manjusri Bodhisattva
Material: Copper as a whole, part of the surface gilded
Manjushri Bodhisattva forms the gesture of granting wishes with
left hand and holds a wish-fulfilling jewel in right hand, sitting on
a blue lion.Manjushri Bodhisattva symbolizes great wisdom and
possesses the power of enlightened wisdom. The blue lion is
capable of roaring with a might that shakes demons and fulfills
wishes. Manjushri Bodhisattva uses his wisdom to help people
resist worldly cravings and confusion, transcend worldly bonds,
and realize the truth. This symbolizes the spirit of people
pursuing self-transcendence. As attendants of Shakyamuni
Buddha, Manjushri Bodhisattva and Samantabhadra
Bodhisattva work together to bring compassion to all beings.
