Signed on the underside, c. 1970, carved and painted wood. Depiction of the archangel Jophiel expelling Adam and Eve from Eden, with the snake on the apple tree. 15" high, 19.75" long. Provenance: From the collection of the late Dr. James Dawson, sold to benefit the Dr. James Dawson MD Women's Clinic in Uganda.Previously sold at Christie's, New York, January 15, 1999, lot 279.
Condition: No visible breaks or repairs; the figures are all slightly loose from the base board, and the angel can now rotate and there is a resulting arc of wear on his base.
