19th c. J. & E. Stevens Mechanical Eagle Bank
J. & E. Stevens Company, United States. Cast iron and pigment mechanical bank in the form of a family of eagles, ca. 1883. There is a lever below the tail feathers of the largest eagle. When the lever is depressed, the eagle flaps its wings, opens its beak, and leans forward towards the baby eaglet birds, which also open their beaks and are elevated slightly. A coin may be inserted in the largest eagle's beak and deposited into a coin slot located between the two baby birds.
Height: 6 1/2 in x width: 7 1/2 in x depth: 4 in.
Condition: Tarnishing to the metal and losses to the paint throughout. Wear to the underside. Lever works and all eagles move well.
