Rare: Chidushei Halachos - Maharam Schiff, Hamburg 1736. Two Parts In One. First Edition.
First edition of the one of the fundamental commentaries on the Talmud: Chidushei Maharam Schiff, which is widely studied till this very day.
This copy is complete with part II, as published, with a separate title page. Includes Chidushim on Bava Kamma, Sanhedrin, Shabbos and Zevachim, as well as Derashos on various topics.
Title page with various woodcuts depicting different scenes. Most notably, a large whale swimming in stormy seas alongside a ship. This quite possinly alludes to the author's name "Schiff", which translates to "ship" in Yiddish.
Brought to print by the author's grandson, with a detailed introduction relating the tragic events surrounding the author's Chidushim.
Interestingly, this very copy was used to produce the facsimile of the Chaim Elozor Reich Renaissance Hebraica Collection, which can be found on the Hebrewbooks.org website.
This work is very rare; seldom found complete and in good condition.
Occasional light worming seen to some leaves, otherwise in good condition.
