Rare Hebrew Classic: Sefer Abudarham, Constantinople 1513.
Sefer Abudarham, Constantinople 1513. Rare second edition of the classic commentary of the Abudarham. The first edition is an incunable, and was printed in Lisbon, 1489. The present copy is the first post-incunabula edition. Complete copies such as this are hard to come by, and are rarely seen at auction.
Sefer Abudarham is perhaps the most well-known commentary on the order of prayers, and has been reprinted in many tens of editions.
Handwritten glosses in a Sephardic hand, likely from the 16th century, are seen on several leaves. From the prestigious library of Rabbi Moses Gaster, with his signature on title page. Previous ownership inscriptions on title page.
In good-fair condition, bound in a splendid hand-tooled binding. Stains to several leaves including title page. Minor restorations to title page, with a small portion (approx. 3 words) on verso provided in facsimile. Upper corner of pp. 4 torn, with loss to several words, replaced in facsimile. Worming to final two leaves, now professionally restored.
100 pp.
