Trick Dog Mechanical Bank
Early Version with Six Part Base. Made by the Shepard Hardware Company. Buffalo, New York - Circa Late 1880's. This colorful and animated toy bank rapidly became one of Shepard's best sellers from their group of banks known as the Excelsior Series. It represents the original patented design for a trained circus dog jumping thru a clown's hoop. This motif was so popular with children that further iterations of the hoop jumping dog were produced into the mid 1930's. The barrel, with its delicate trompe-l'oeil painted staves, coupled with the exceptional quality of the dog and the rich vibrant colors of the base make this a very outstanding example of the Trick Dog Bank.
Condition: Pristine Plus Condition with Original Box.
