Squirrel and Tree Stump Bank
Made by Mechanical Novelty Works. New Britain, Connecticut - Circa 1881. Like a squirrel who hides his surplus acorns when times are good and nuts are plentiful, the forward thinking child who chooses to save his spare pennies will turn them into dollars. Lessons teaching children the virtues of thrift and economy were ever-present in Victorian Society. To operate the bank, place your coin on top of the squirrel's acorn. Press the lever and watch him lean forward to make a deposit in the hollowed out tree stump. This magnificent condition bank was discovered about ten years ago. It's an absolute dazzler.
Condition: Near Mint Condition.
