Uncle Sam and the Don
Made by the Gong Bell Company. East Hampton, Ct. - Circa 1898. From the Bob Stewart Collection. This colorful bell ringer references the brief conflict known as the Spanish-American War that took place over 4 months time in 1898. Visually, Spain is represented by a Moorish dressed figure and the US is symbolized as Uncle Sam in patriotic costume. They meet to fight a duel. Uncle Sam's sword is raised high up in the air, while the Don's sword is in a lowered position, indicating America's victory in this battle. Absolutely stunning quality.
Condition: Mint Condition.
