South Indian Brass Yali Hilted Recurve Dagger, 18th-19th c.
South India, Deccan, Bijapur, or Golconda regions. A combination of Persian and Indian symbols of power zoomorphic hilts embody the power of the dragon and were often depicted in portraits of Sultans. The Yali carved dragon hilted dagger with outstretched tongue and agape mouth has a recurved blade double edge with double fuller to either side. Size overall 13 3/4" L, blade 8 3/4"
