Silver Jambiya Dagger & Embroidered Belt, Turn of 20th C.
West Asia, Yemen. Fine and large Yemeni silver mounted dagger and embroidered belt. Slender, double edged blade of moderate curvature with stiff medial ridge, hand forged lamellar steel indicating some age and sharp edges. Blade on a horn hilt retained by three dome headed rivets and with silver ornamentation on the front face, decorated with geometric applique designs. The wood scabbard with matching silver throat and chape, the center portion covered with brown leather, attached to a belt with applique and stitched leather in simple geometric designs of white, red, and green. Size belt 35 1/2" L, dagger 20 1/2" L, blade 16" L.

Front long bladed dagger, some of which assume the dimensions of short sword, are characteristic of the northwestern Yemen and adjoining areas of Saudi Arabia and are called Saboki.
