Letter from Rabbi Dov Kook – with Important Descriptions regarding the ADERET and Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Ha'Cohen Kook – 1894
Letter handwritten and signed by Rabbi Dov Ha'Cohen Kook, the brother of Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Ha'Cohen Kook, to his father Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Ha'Cohen Kook. January 1892.
In the letter, he describes the way he studies the Talmud and the Poskim. The description indicates his immense diligence. Then throughout several pages pf the letter, he discusses Hilchot Berachot (the laws of the blessings).
On the margins of the first page, there is a handwritten comment by the researcher Reb Saul Chana Ha'Cohen Kook, the writer's brother.
On the last page, Rabbi Dov Kook tells his father that his in-law, the ADERET, rabbinical judge of Ponevez, "is moving to Mir". The ADERET was Avraham Yitzchak Ha'Cohen Kook's father-in-law. Then, Rabbi Dov Kook tells his father that Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Ha'Cohen Kook, who at the time served as the rabbi of the town Zoimel, travelled to Ponevez. He also tells him about his brother's new and interesting plan (which had not been realized!). "I am waiting for his letter from Ponevez, since I am sure it will bear good news for us".
At the margins of the page, his wife, Rivka Kook, added several lines (in Yiddish) to her father-in-law.
Rabbi Dov Ber Ha'Cohen Kook (1872-1950), the brother of Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Ha'Cohen Kook, served as a rabbi in Krok and Bialystograd. He immigrated to Israel and was the first Chief Rabbi of Afula. Several years later, he moved to Jerusalem and headed the Harry Fischel Institute for the study of the Talmud.
