Letter of Response to Rabbi Shmuel Salant – Signatures – Lithuania 1895
Letter of response of the rabbinical court in Plunge-Lithuania, due to an inquiry conducted by the Rabbi of Jerusalem, Rabbi Shmuel Salant regarding a question about an inheritance. Plunge, Lithuania, 1895.
During the term of Rabbi Shmuel Salant as the rabbi of Jerusalem, a woman named Deborah, daughter of Reb Moshe of Plunge, died, leaving an inheritance. Rabbi Salant was most familiar with the rabbinical judges of Plunge and he turned to them with a request to find out who the woman's heirs are. In the letter, the judges spread out the tragic history of the woman and her heirs. At the end of the letter they write: "and the money can be sent to … Rabbi Meir Halperin in Telz and he will divide it among the heirs…" One of the judges also adds that after writing the response, the rabbi [Rabbi Shmuel Avigdor Fablezon?] arrived at his house and told him that Rabbi Salant had sent him to clarify the matter.
The document is signed by Rabbi Zvi, son of Rabbi Uri Shabtai Datz and Rabbi Dober Yosef Yaffe.
