ANDREW HULL FOOTE
(1806-1863) Union admiral crucial in the attacks on Forts Henry and Donelson, and at Island No. 10. He died during the war of disease. A.L.S., 1p. legal folio, Washington, January 17,1863, enclosing a requisition for rigging for the 'Saratoga' to Commodore C.K. Stribling, Commandant of the Philadelphia Navy Yard. Foote signs 'A.H. Foote' in black ink as the Chief of the Bureau of Equipment and Recruiting. Chips at top, not affecting text, spindle holes at left margin, else fine. Matted and framed with an engraving.
