Collection of Medals, Tokens and Plaques – Medal commemorating the Establishment of Rishon LeZion, 1882 / Medals - Palestine Pavillion in the Paris Colonial Exhibition / Plaques Designed by Krechmer
11. Medals and plaques related to Palestinian themes. Palestine and France, ca. 1882 through 1950s.
1. Commemorative medal – establishment of Rishon LeZion. Obverse: view of the colony and the year (1882); surrounded by the verse "They are Rishon LeZion [first of Zion], "I will bring the herald to Jerusalem" (Isiash 41, 27) and "Rishon LeZion Colony". Reverse: In the center, within a frame in the shape of the Tablets of the Law, appear figures praying at the Western Wall and a farmer spreading seeds in a field. Above the figures appear a Star of David and the legend "Mi Yiten MiZion Yeshuat Israel" and the verse "If I forget thee Jerusalem" (Hebrew).
2-4. Three identical medals made of different materials minted for the Paris Colonial Exhibition, 1931. Obverse: The Palestine pavilion in the exhibition and the legend "Exposition coloniale international, Paris 1931". Reverse: Olive tree branch and the legend "Palestine" (Hebrew, Arabic, English). Sighed: "L. Bazor".
5-6. Two identical plaques with a relief of Herzliya Gymnasium building. Signed: Krechmer.
7-11. Rectangular plaques and pendants with the map of Palestine and the legend "Eretz Israel, Palestine" by Shmuel Krechmer or designed by him. Some of the plaques have a suspension loop and one is pierced for suspension. One plaque is signed on the back: "Krechmer, Palestine" and the others are not signed. [Palestine, 1930s or 1940s].
Size and condition vary. Good overall condition. Stains. Corrosion.
