Broadside - Alphabet Table, For Learning Yiddish - Workmen's Circle, 1947
Croadside with the Hebrew alphabet, in square script and cursive, for learning Yiddish, produced by the Workmen's Circle - Der Bildungs-Kamitet fon Arbeter-Ring. New York, 1947.
Large broadside for hanging in a class, with the Hebrew alphabet and vocalization marks, for learning Yiddish.
The organization "Der Arbeter Ring" (Workmen's Circle) was founded in New York in 1900 following the wave of immigration of Eastern European Jews in the late 19th century. At first its aim was to assist immigrants in joining the American work force, but later it began to engage in the preservation of Jewish-Ashkenazi culture in the U.S., part of which entailed the study of the Yiddish language.
61X97 cm. Fair-good condition. Mounted on cloth (old). Holes and tears to margins. Creases. Stain on right side. Top left corner missing.
