'The Blue Box'. Eretz Yisrael ca. 1930s-1940s

The Blue Box was the nickname of a box for collecting money for Jewish National Fund. They were used both as a tool for raising funds and for spreading the Zionist ideology. Eventually, the Blue Box became the symbol and  brand of the Jewish National Fund and Zionism.

Beginning in 1904, boxes were manufactured and sent to Jewish communities around the world. Resembling tradiitonal charity boxes, the Blue Box was placed in many Jewish homes and educational institutions. In the first three decades of its existence, the design of the Box was not uniform. Many boxes bore a star-of-David and the inscription "Keren Kayemet LeYisrael" (Jewish National Fund) on a blue background, yet with a variety of designs and shades.
