"Jews from Karlsbad". Terra Cotta (Rough Clay), Bohemia ca. 1900
The figures of three Jews sitting on a bench and talking; this is a late version of the well-known motif of rural Jews in bench talks.
Terra Cotta ('cooked earth' in Italian) is a unique name given to a certain type of rough, flexible and porous clay as well as to utensils, sculptures and structural elements (tiles, bricks and roof tiles) made of the fired substance.
Small repair to one of the feet.
