18th Century Colonial School - Crucified Christ, Carved Wood
Dimensions: 26 × 8 × 3 cm. Carved wood. This 17th-century figure of Christ Crucified presents Jesus at the climax of his sacrifice, his arms extended toward heaven in a posture of tension and total surrender. The expression of agony, masterfully captured on the face, and the detailed treatment of the folds of the loincloth, demonstrate the colonial sculptor's ability to convey not only physical suffering but also the spiritual dimension of the moment. This work encapsulates the Baroque drama characteristic of religious art in the Spanish colonies.
