Great utopia. Russian and Soviet avant-garde 1915-1932.
Bern, Moscow. Bentelli, Galart. 1993. 832 p. Softcover, 23 x 28.5 cm. Very good condition.

The great utopia is the last Grand Western project dedicated to the Russian avant-garde. This is the world's first revolutionary state of workers and peasants. Revolution itself goes out of fashion in the West and is perceived as a manifestation of social and artistic utopianism. Russian Russian Museum and the Tretyakov gallery organized the exhibition with the support of the Ministry of culture and with the participation of many organizations that own materials of the Russian avant-garde. The list of museums, foundations and institutions around the world that have provided their exhibits for the "great utopia" takes two turns in the catalog. The catalog includes a chronicle of artistic life, detailed biographies of artists, and information about all groups and institutions of Russian avant-gardists. "The great utopia" begins to be shown in March 1992 in the "Schirn Kunsthalle" (Frankfurt), then it moves to the City Museum of Amsterdam and from there to the Museum of Solomon Guggenheim. In 1993, it was accepted at home-first in the GTG, then in the GRM. Vanguard is shown as a global utopian project that completely changes not only culture, but also everyday life, and also seeks to influence politics. A symbolic assessment of these claims looks like the cover of the catalog, designed by the" Composition " of the futurist artist of the early 1920s. Vasily Ermilov. The composition includes a knife, an American box of matches and a quarter circle of pressed straw-a set of items that clearly resembles rations, a stable sign of the entire Soviet history.
