[The authors of the book, the spouses Sidney and Beatrice Webb — prominent figures of the English labor movement of the first half of the XX century, leaders of Fabianism. In 1932, they visited the USSR. Their book, published in 1936, became one of the first foreign publications analyzing the formation of Soviet society and the state. The authors responded with sympathy for the Soviet system, and therefore their work was approved in the USSR and published in Russian translation as an example of recognition of the success of the communist system in the West.]
