Sephardic rabbanim. Letter from Shadar Rav Chaim Yosef Maman av"d Oran, sent to the Yisa Brachah. [1897].
Lengthy letter written by Rav Chaim Yosef Maman av"d Oran and the area and rav"d Casablanca, to the Rishon LeZion, Rav Yaakov Shaul Elyashar - the Yisa Brachah.
In his letter, Rav Chaim Yosef Maman demands his rights regarding his fundraising trip.
Rav Yosef Chaim Maman (1810 - 1925) was a grandson of "the angel" Rav Refael Maman av"d Tiveria and Safed (author of Marpeh L'Nefesh, also in this catalog). He was born in Meknes, but moved to Tiveria when he was young. Tradition has it that he was the one who led the hilulah of Rav Meir Baal HaNess. He set out to Morocco to fundraise for the Tiveria community, and later served in a number of rabbinical positions in Algeria and Morocco. He was known for his steadfast position against grinding wheat by a machine. He later resettled in Eretz Yisrael and is buried in Tiveria. (Kehillas Sefrou, section 5, p. 419)
Tiveria, 1897.
