Letter of Shanghai Refugee- Letter from Rav Elazar Meir Bein.
Rav Elazar Meir Bein (5678-5759) was the close disciple of the Piaseczno Rebbe (author of Chovas Hatalmidim). As a student in Yeshivas Chachmei Lublin, he escaped together with the yeshiva to Shanghai. Later, he made aliya to Eretz Yisrael and served as a driving chassidic force in Jerusalem.
In his letter, which he sent from the Colombo harbor while traveling, he tells of the difficulties on the ship- the lack of food, the fact that in Singapore the passengers where not permitted to get off the ship, etc.
