Responsum and Letter from Rabbi Yechezkel Banet, Av Beit Din of Varhal – 1901

Two handwritten letters from Rabbi Yechezkel Banet, Av Beit Din of Varhal and the surrounding region.


  • A halachic responsum to one of his students, discussing Talmudic analysis on Tractate Gittin, dated 1901.
    [1] sheet of paper, 30 cm, written on both sides in black ink.
    The sheet is folded along its length and width, with a tear and slight text loss at the lower margin.
  • A short letter, written and signed by Rabbi Banet, on his original letterhead, from the same year.

Rabbi Yechezkel Banet, Av Beit Din of Varhal and the Region
Son of Rabbi Gershon Wolf Banet, Av Beit Din of Ungvar, and son-in-law of Rabbi Shlomo Ganzfried, author of Kitzur Shulchan Aruch. A disciple of his grandfather and of Rabbi Chaim Tzvi Manheimer, as well as a son-in-law of Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Glick, Av Beit Din of Tolcsva.
In 1889, he was appointed Rabbi and Rosh Yeshiva of Varhal. He passed away on Rosh Chodesh Iyar, 1913.
Although his various works are referenced in Ohalei Shem (p. 401), only his responsa She’eilot U’Teshuvot Meshiv Ta’am was published.
