המחבר רבי יעקב יאקב ברלין (תס"ח- תק"י) מגאוני פיורדא וראש הישיבה המפורסמת בה. תלמיד הגאון בעל ‘שב יעקב’, ידיד ורע להגאון בעל זכרון יוסף המעיד עליו שהיה ‘ארי שבחבורה’.
