המקובל האלוקי רבי יעקב צמח - מדמשק וצפת, תלמידו של רבי שמואל וויטאל בן המהרח"ו, חיבר ספרי קבלה רבים וערך את מהדורה בתרא של כתבי רבי חיים ויטאל על פי מעשה שהיה.הכתבים מ'המהדורא בתרא' של רבי חיים ויטאל, ונקברו אחרי מותו של רבי חיים בהתאם לצוואתו, ועל ידי תעניות רבות נגלה רבי חיים בשאלת חלום אל רבי יעקב צמח ורבי אברהם אזולאי, והתיר להם להוציא את הכתבים ממקום גניזתם ולהפיצם.
