Passover Haggadah in Marathi Translation. Pune, 1874. Rare

Passover haggadah with Marathi translation and pictures. Pune, 1874. Extraordinarily rare haggadah.

Haggadah per the customs of the "Bnei Yisrael" community in India. The title page is entirely in Marathi, except for the name of the book.

The Marathi translation is on facing pages with parallel pagination. The first leaves bear large pictures of Moshe and Aharon, matzah baking, and all the simanim of Seder night per the Bnei Yisrael community customs in India.

Extraordinarily rare haggadah. Regarding this rare haggadah, refer also to A. Ya'ari, HaDefus HaIvri B'Pune pp. 83-84 with a copy of the title page (from HaDefus HaIvri B'Artzot HaMizrach, Part II). Interesting detail: In the laws of hagalat keilim, it instructs that a special blessing be recited: "... asher kidshanu b'mitzvotav vetzivano al hagalat keilim." This blessing is completely unknown and is not mentioned by poskim.

2, [9] leaf, [1], 5-50, 5 pp. 20.5 cm. Ya'ari 1077; Otzar HaHaggadot 1437.

Moderate-fine condition. The haggadah has been professionally restored, primarily completion of the white margins. Minimal worming perforations. New semi-parchment binding.
