From the very beginning of print, tradition has dictated that when a new edition of a book is printed, a limited number of copies are printed - sometimes just one - in a unique manner that is different from other copies of the edition. The uniqueness is expressed in several forms: different color ink from the standard, wider margins, printing on colored paper (usually blue) or parchment, and more. These copies are usually dedicated to gvirim who funded the printing of the sefer, or given to important personalities as an expression of appreciation.
