Collection of Rare Jewish Postcards Published by Phonix. Berlin, Early 20th Century
15 early [undivided] postcards with Jewish historical and biblical scenes, all published by Phonix Berlin, early 20th century.
Highlights: Interesting postcard depicting Jewish philosopher Baruch Spinoza sitting on the lap of Uriel Acosta [1585-1640], a Portuguese philosopher scion of a marrano family who, like Spinoza, was excommunicated by the Jewish community in Amsterdam for his heretical views. The postcard depicts him as spiritual mentor of Spinoza, the boy sitting on his lap. A Jewish youth from Bukhara in traditional dress; the figure of an Eastern European beggar going door to door; a scene of prayer at the Western Wall; postcard depicting the "wandering Jew" [Der ewige jude]; various postcards depicting biblical scenes [Moses, King Solomon, Joseph and Potiphar's wife]; postcards designed by Ephraim Moshe Lilien and more.
Postcards: 9x14 cm. All undivided [early, prior to 1905], all were sent in the mail, overall fine condition.
