Raziel HaMalach - First Printing. Amsterdam. The Earliest Sefer Segulah
"Effective segulah to see grandchildren ... and for success and blessing ... To extinguish the fire of battle ... for whoever has this sefer ... concealed together with his silver and gold in his treasury ... and in a time of distress, it will bring quick salvation - this is attested to and related by all bnei Torah" (from the text on the title page)
Sefer Raziel HaMalach - "This is Adam Kadma"a's sefer, given to him by Raziel HaMalach." Kabbalistic tradition, as appears in the sacred Zohar, [refer to the Hebrew text for a more extensive discussion] is that the sefer Raziel HaMalach gave to Adam HaRishon after the latter was exiled from Gan Eden, so that he could use his wondrous powers even on Earth. The sefer is full of amulets and angel-oaths to protect its owners, and demon- and spirit-oaths to prevent them from damaging him. Amsterdam, 1701.
A magnificent copy with wide margins.
Raziel HaMalach is the first sefer known as a segulah sefer. It is famed as a segulah for protection just by being present in one's home. Many have searched for the source of this segulah. The segulah's source appears here, in the title page of this first edition, which states: "For the entire Jewish people, it is an effective segulah to see wise and understanding grandchildren, success and blessing. To extinguish the fire of battle so that no demon or bad influence resides in his home, for whoever has this honorable and awesome sefer concealed together with his silver and gold in his treasury. In times of illness or distress, it will bring quick salvation - this is attested to and related by all bnei Torah." Another tried-and-true segulah attributed to this sefer is to put it under the head of a woman during childbirth as a segulah for an easy birth. See, for example, in Shu"t Divrei Malkiel [Vilna, 1891, Part V, siman 166] as follows: "With reference to the custom of putting Sefer Raziel under the birthing woman's pillow ... so that she gives birth properly, without injury ... caution them to not put it opposite the head."
Stefansky, Sifrei Yessod 332.
45 leaf. 23. cm. Many Kabbalistic illustrations.
Very good Condition. A few water stains. New leather binding. On the title page, artistic restoration in the white margins without damage to the tex.
