Tzemach Tzaddik, Chassidic teachings on the weekly Torah portions and festivals, by the Admor Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Vizhnitz. Chernivtsi, 1885. Three volumes. First Edition.

Before us is the first edition of the most important Chassidic work of the Vizhnitz dynasty, authored by its founding Admor, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Hager, known by the title of this very book, "Tzemach Tzaddik". The first edition was published shortly after the author's passing, with a foreword by his son and successor, Rabbi Baruch of Vizhnitz.

Rabbi Menachem Mendel Hager (1830–1884), was the founder and first Admor of the Vizhnitz dynasty. He was born in Kosiv as the youngest son of Rabbi Chaim Hager, known as the "Toras Chaim". He was named after his grandfather, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Hager of Kosiv. At the age of 14, he married Miriam Manya, daughter of Rabbi Yisrael of Ruzhin. At 24, following his father's passing in 1854, he assumed the position of Admor in Vizhnitz, where he lived until his passing.

Rabbi Menachem Mendel was widely revered for his profound Torah scholarship and was deeply immersed in study. The great Torah scholars of his time greatly admired his erudition and often sought his guidance on complex halachic matters. At the same time, he was renowned for his extreme generosity in tzedakah, to the extent that legends were told about his charitable giving. He dedicated all the money he received from his Chassidim to charity, and despite his position, he lived an ascetic life, refraining from physical comforts. It is told that he would not warm himself by a stove, even on the coldest winter nights.
